Mehdi Hasan: You can’t trust “moderate Republicans” on impeachment

In a recent op-ed for The Intercept, political commentator Mehdi Hasan argues that Democrats should not trust “moderate Republicans” when it comes to the impeachment of President Trump. Hasan cites the example of former Republican Senator Jeff Flake, who has been critical of Trump’s behavior but ultimately voted to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Hasan argues that Flake and other moderate Republicans may publicly criticize Trump but will ultimately prioritize their party over the country when it comes to impeachment. He also notes that Republicans have largely remained loyal to Trump despite his numerous scandals and controversies. Hasan concludes that Democrats should not waste their time trying to win over Republican votes for impeachment and should instead focus on building public support for the process.
