Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren and Republican Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson engaged in a heated exchange during a Senate hearing regarding HUD’s funding. Warren grilled Carson about the $31,000 dining set purchased for his office, as well as HUD’s decision to allow federal funds to be used for housing owned by the Trump Organization. Carson defended the purchase of the dining set as necessary for his office, and stated that he was unaware of any conflict of interest regarding the Trump properties. Warren accused Carson of being “unwilling to do his job” and called for an investigation into the matter.
